Minimum Income Requirement for Sponorship

Aggie Hoffman

What is the minimum income requirement for a US citizen petitioner to sponsor a person from another country (Afghanistan)? I need to know how much money in dollars I need in the bank for a US citizen petitioner to sponsor a non relative (he has no relatives in the US). Do I need $5,000, $10,000, $20,000? I do not understand percentage of poverty level so I need an amount. Also what if I cannot provide the money needed to sponsor this person and I have no one that will help. The person I am trying to get to the US and marry and sponsor has the money he says to pay for everything needed to get to the US. Can this man sponsor himself or pay for me to sponsor him? He has the money to do so. I am trying to get a K-1 fiancé visa to marry. Please help.

A Us citizen cannot "sponsor" a visitor. The applicant must qualify based on his own merit. If he can demonstrate that he is likely to depart the US upon the completion of his visit, and has the means to support himself during the visit, the visa will likely be issued. As for paying you to get him a K-1 visa, that is either badly phrased or is a violation of US immigration law. You need to consult an experienced immigration attorney to assure that you do not get involved in an illegal activity.
